FEMALE OWNED AND OPERATED
Suzy Rayner, owner of Valkyrie Pest Solutions , Manitoba, Canada, was one of three female business owners who spoke at NPMA ‘s Women’s Forum
on challenges and triumphs faced as female owners in pest control.
In the following video interview, Rayner shared how she scaled her business threefold by creating a trauma-informed approach when working with customers in low-income housing. She said she chose to center her business model this way from her past experiences facing homelessness.
Rayner is also passionate about increasing the gender diversity gap in the pest control industry. She said she's committed to only hiring women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community as full-time field technicians as way of creating a more inclusive and diverse company culture.

Breaking Barriers: The Importance of Gender Diversity in Pest Control
In a male-dominated industry such as pest control, engagements with customers tend to be impersonal and transactional.
These circumstances motivated Suzy Rayner to lead with empathy when she interacts with customers so that she can meet them where they are.
Rayner joins us on this episode of Pest in Class to share her story of incredible resilience and how she turned the adversities she faced in her personal life into a strength. She also talks about how she started her company, Valkyrie Pest Solutions, and why she uses a trauma-informed lens when engaging with customers.
